History
Bordertown Coffee is located in an historic building that was constructed in 1929. The abandoned fraternity house had been vacant for about a year, and had fallen into massive disrepair, condemned with six pages of housing code violations. The only occupants at that time were the birds, and their droppings piled up to four inches deep in some places. Greg Silker saw the wood beamed ceilings and fireplace on the inside and thought it could be the perfect location for our coffee house. Warm, less commercial than a storefront and like a second home for students. Hundreds of volunteers donated thousands of hours to aid Southridge Construction in demolition and renovations. They helped carry out over three tons of non-construction garbage before renovations began. Now the old Theta Chi building is home to Bordertown Coffee, which serves all sorts of coffee goodness to the community at the UofM!
