The Anoka Police Department responds to criminal incidents through proactive patrol and investigative units and criminal prosecution. It also educates and communicates with citizens regarding public safety issues. The departments criminal section division maintains investigation and juvenile units, as well as employs a criminal task force. The Anoka Police Department s special services section oversees community service, records and security units and handles accreditation and crime watch. It maintains K-9 and bike patrol units and has a Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team. The department supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) program, which teaches students to avoid peer pressure temptations and drugs.
