Founded in 1986 and located in Apple Valley, Minn., ALF Ambulance is a municipal-based advanced life support ambulance service operating under a Joint Powers Agreement, and serving the cities of Apple Valley, Lakeville and Farmington in Dakota County, Minn. The ambulance service is governed by an operating board that consists of an elected city council member from each of the member cities. It also provides ambulance service on a contractual basis to the surrounding townships as well, servicing a total area of more than 160 square miles, with a population of over 140,000 residents. ALF Ambulance is staffed with two paramedics, and has its own internal education department, which creates programs for the paramedics, as well as the general public. The programs offered to the general public include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid and first responder programs, emergency medical treatment, and community education tours.
