The Wyandotte Youth Assistance Program is a community-based program sponsored by the city of Wyandotte, Wayne County Department of Child and Family Services and local contributions. It operates out of the Police Department. The juvenile diversion and crime prevention program is for youth ages 7 to 16. All services are free and open to Wyandotte residents. Services offered include one-to-one mentoring, life skills peer groups, counseling, parenting workshops/support, referrals for outside therapy/treatment, recreational activities, prison visits, court observation, field trips and tutoring.
The program is geared toward youths who are having problems such as truancy, drug or alcohol use, behavioral problems, family conflicts, difficult dealing with a grief or loss and trouble with law enforcement.
