The Land and Water Management Division, also known as LWMD, is operated by the State of Michigan. It is responsible for the administration of land and water interface resources. The division focuses on environmental protection and public health and safety. It operates the Inland Lakes and Streams Program, which oversees activities, such as dredging, filling and construction on bottomland. The division offers a variety of wetland and sand dune protection services. The Land and Water Management Division conducts various hydrologic studies. Its transportation flood hazard management unit reviews permit applications submitted by public transportation agencies. The Land and Water Management Division offers floodplain and shoreland management services.
