Merry TubaChristmas-Detroit is an annual Christmas tradition held at Central United Methodist Church in Detroit, MI. Tuba players from all over come together to fill the sanctuary with the rich sounds of tubas playing Christmas carols and holiday tunes arranged specifically for the instrument. With the goal of celebrating the Christmas season and showcasing tuba virtuosity, this event is a tribute to the late William Bell, a tuba professor, and is sponsored by the Harvey Phillips Foundation.
Under the direction of guest conductor G.R. Davis, professor of tuba at Tennessee State University, Merry TubaChristmas-Detroit invites tuba players to participate in the concert by registering in advance and purchasing the specially arranged Tuba Christmas music. With the opportunity to shine and be part of a unique musical experience, tuba players can join the 75-strong ensemble and make this festive gathering a cherished annual tradition.
