The Detroit Tigers Baseball Club is the city s Major League Baseball franchise. The team, established in 1901, has won four World Series championships and made 11 postseason appearances. The team played their games at Tiger Stadium until moving to the new Comerica Park in 2000. The Tigers Hall of Fame players include Ty Cobb, Hank Greenberg, Al Kaline, Goose Goslin, Eddie Matthews, Larry Doby and Waite Hoyt. The 1984 Tigers were one of the greatest teams in baseball history. They streaked to a record 35-5 start, swept the Kansas City Royals in the ALCS, and when they overpowered the San Diego Padres in the World Series, they matched the 1927 Yankees and the 1955 Dodgers to become just the third team in history to lead wire-to-wire and win the Series. The team is owned by Ilitch Holdings, which serves as the parent company for a group of entertainment and sports related businesses located in Detroit.
