Established in 1989, the Down Syndrome Guild of Southeast MI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving all of southeast Michigan, including Wayne, Oakland, St. Claire, Macomb, Lapeer, Genesee and Livingston counties. Down Syndrome Guild of Southeast MI provides education, advocacy, resources, support and information to individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.
The Down Syndrome Guild of Southeast MI offers programs for expectant parents of newly diagnosed babies, for families with diagnosed children ages birth to 5, ages 5-17, programs for adults and a young athletes program. The Down Syndrome Guild of Southeast MI's vision is to "provide support, resources and advocacy for individuals with Down syndrome, their families and caregivers with the goal of increasing opportunities and awareness."
It offers art, music, yoga and dance classes throughout the month, as well as an annual holiday party, an annual picnic and an annual Easter egg hunt. Support and social groups are available for mothers, fathers and siblings of individuals with Down Syndrome.
Each year, it hosts the "Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk," the organization's largest fundraiser. The walk brings awareness and education to the area. as well as being a full day of fun and activities for families and the community.
