History
The Actor's Workshop first opened its doors in 1984 in downtown Royal Oak. Just then, the city was evolving from a quiet, dour town to a vibrant, youthful community. Opening as The Studio on Washington Avenue, classes were attended by stage actors looking to break into commercials and film; and by models and auto show narrators aiming to learn on-camera acting techniques. Very quickly Director Brian Lawrence decided to broaden the scope of classes by focusing on in-depth training to produce actors who would be competent both onstage and on-camera. By synthesizing the work of great teachers such as Sanford Meisner, Uta Hagen, Stella Adler, Lee Strasberg and Lorrie Hull, Brian has evolved a unique approach that combines tradition and innovation.
