Robert J. Carey graduated Cum Laude from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan and attained his Juris Doctor Degree from the Pettit College of Law, Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, on May 23, 1976. He passed the Michigan Bar exam that November and moved to Kalkaska, Michigan and started the practice of law in December of that year. Since that time he has maintained a full time professional, solo law practice as a general trial practitioner in many areas of law. He is admitted to practice in all courts in the State of Michigan, the Federal Court in the Western District of Michigan, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

Robert Carey is a solo general trial practioner with extensive experience in family law, which includes divorce, annulment, separate maintenance, child custody, visitation, child support, property division, alimony and related matters. Mr. Carey also practices in probate court which includes name changes, paternity, step parent adoption, child abuse and neglect, guardianship and conservatorships for legally incapacitated persons and minors, and also probate of estates and Wills and trust matters. Criminal law is another area in which Robert Carey has extensive experience. He has handled misdemeanors, felonies and high profile felony cases. Mr. Carey is not only a trial lawyer, but he is also involved in the area of real estate which includes drafting of documents, real estate closings and lawsuits to quiet title, slander of title and forfeiture and foreclosure actions and general civil litigation.
