Oakland University's Golf and Learning Center, located on the beautifully wooded campus of Oakland University, is home to two world-class golf courses: The R&S Sharf Golf Course and the Katke-Cousins Golf Course. Highly ranked by Golf Digest, R&S Sharf is a beautiful but challenging course and Katke-Cousins has been ranked by the Detroit News as one of the best in the state. These two world class course have hosted both professional and amateur tournaments, most recently Ryder Cup Champions Invitational in 2004.
Tracing its roots back to when John Dodge first built a nine hole course on the Meadow Brook Estate back in the early 1900s. Because of his death in 1920 this traditions was lost until well after the University was built. When during the construction of the Katke-Cousins course in 1976, Mr. Dodge's course was rediscovered.
The R&S Sharf was added after demand grew and as a way to increase ties with the community also to provide additional instructional opportunities for the University.
Oakland University's Golf & Learning Center is more than just another beautiful set of courses, it is also an exceptional learning facility. The driving range has practice facility with separate areas for full swing, short game and bunker play over 30,000 square feet of hitting area and 28 hitting mats. There are also separate teaching tees for private instruction. The 5 acre short game area includes 3 greens, 5 bunkers and multiple turf conditions for working on every aspect of your chipping, pitching and bunker game. The putting green is maintained with the same consistent speeds of the actual golf course.
Patrons will also find state of the art training aids, group, semi private and private instructions from the on-site pros all combine for to maximize each learning experience.
