The Norwegian Lutheran Church Historical Society of Calumet, MI is dedicated to preserving the rich history and heritage of the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Calumet. Located within the Keweenaw National Historical Park, the church was built in 1898 by Edward Ulseth and his nephew Nels Ulseth, who replicated a church from their hometown of Kristiansund, Norway.
Over the years, the church has played a significant role in the community, with Nels Ulseth and his wife Kaja being the first couple to be married there in 1899. Thanks to the efforts of Mollie Ulseth, daughter of Nels Ulseth, the church was saved from demolition in the 1990s and is now in need of restoration, particularly its beautiful stained glass windows. The society welcomes support and contributions to help restore these windows and continue preserving the historical significance of the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Calumet.
