HistoryThe Chevrolet Employees Federal Credit Union began in 1949 as employees of Bay City Chevrolet returned to work after a 110-day strike. Unable to meet their financial obligations, many employees were on the brink of losing their jobs due to their wages being garnished by creditors. Concerned co-workers knew something had to be done. Workers agreed to chip in $5 to lend to those co-workers in need. The $5 contribution still represents one share in the credit union today. In 2003, membership eligibility in the credit union expanded to include anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Bay, Saginaw, Midland, or Arenac County.
