The 240 sworn members of the Lansing Fire Department are charged with protecting the lives and property of more than 127,000 people. The department provides emergency response services, code enforcement, public education and ongoing training. It acts as a first responder to structure and vehicle fires, wild fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents and water rescues. The Lansing Fire Department responds to approximately 15,000 calls annually from its nine stations. Its fire prevention and investigation services include code enforcement, fire cause determination, public education and construction plans review. The training division manages more than 200 courses each year.
