First Congregational Church
First Congregational Church is a diverse group of learning, growing, and serving Christians. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to respond with faith in the Good News of Jesus Christ. Our desire is to love God in our worship, to love God's people with our service, and in word and deed to share God's love with all we meet. The word CONGREGATIONAL reveals a little more about who we are. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, you already know a little about Congregational Church. The congregational path began among the first Christian communities that were empowered by the Holy Spirit to carry on Jesus' ministry as recorded in Acts 2. The Spirit also led Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John to tell and share the story of God's grace in Jesus. But the distinctive roots of congregationalism emerged from the English adventurers who left the Old World to settle in America to escape religious oppression and to freely practice their faith. The founding of America is wrapped up with the desire to freely worship God. The congregational way confesses that Jesus Christ is head of the Church. Lots of things have changed over those many centuries, but if at Thanksgiving you gather with family and friends to give thanks to God for your blessings, and if you desire to share God's blessings with others, then you can taste and see a little of the Congregational heritage. God gathers us for worship each week-end and empowers us by the Holy Spirit to go into the world to love others and to share the Good News of new life through faith in Jesus Christ. We follow God into the world to share this Good News in word and in deed, just as God shares his love and forgiveness with us and others in the words and deeds of Jesus. First Congregational Church is blessed with gifted musicians, traditional and contemporary, and a diverse fellowship of ages, races, and ethnic groups. Our contemporary Praise Teams lead us into God's presence Saturday night at 6: 30 and Sunday morning at 10: 30. They will set your feet to taping and your soul will be drawn into the presence of God. Our traditional worship at 8: 30 and 10: 30 on Sundays features some of the finest organ, bell, and choral music in Northern Michigan. Whatever your age or stage, God is working through the ministries of FCC to help you find your way in your faith journey. Whether you are a beginner or have been walking with the Lord for many years, or recently retired or are looking for a church to nurture your children and youth into a deeper walk with God, we offer a variety of Bible studies, prayer experiences, sermon series, and worship services that will help you grow closer to God.
