Located in Grand Rapids, Mich., the Kent County Road Commission is a public service agency that works towards improvement in public infrastructure by providing a safe and convenient network of roads as part of the county's multimodal transportation system. It promotes a cooperative role with local governments to manage land use by implementing improvement plans based upon the assessments of system needs and environmental impact. The Kent County Road Commission, under contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation, maintains more than 995 miles of state roads. The road commission undertakes a variety of long-range strategic investment plans, such as primary road construction, intersection, resurfacing, bridge, nonmotorized and traffic signal projects.
