Established in 1956, the Hawthorn Center is a treatment agency operated by the Michigan Department of Community Health. Located in Northville, Mich., the Hawthorn Center provides inpatient psychiatric services to emotionally disturbed children and adolescents. It has treated more than 30,000 children and families since its establishment. The center also offers training sessions and classes for child psychiatric residents, psychology interns, and social work, special education and nursing students. The Hawthorn Center provides counseling, assessment, nursing care, educational and psychological services, as well as individual, group and family therapies. The Michigan Department of Community Health, also known as MDCH, is responsible for health policies and management of the publicly funded health service systems in the state.
