Cascade Township Fire Department provides various preventative and emergency service to the communities of Grand Rapids, Mich. The department covers 35-square-miles of residential, commercial and industrial based area, as well as the Gerald R Ford International Airport. It was established in 1942 as an all-volunteer department. It conducts Safe at Home Program in the schools to educate children on fire safety. The department is equipped with automatic external defibrillator for cardiac arrests, and has thermal imaging cameras to detect fires inside walls and other areas not seen by the human eye. The fire department has a staff of more than 15 professionally trained full-time fire fighters and run three shifts 24-hours a day.
