Communication Access Center, founded in 1965 and located in Flint, Mich., is a private nonprofit agency that has been providing services that bridge the communication, cultural and environmental barriers to the hearing impaired. It was one of the first service agencies to be established within the United States. The center provides a range of services, such as interpreting and educational services, advocacy, social services and behavioral health services. The recipients of the services are individuals living in the United States who are either hearing impaired or experiencing hearing loss, as well as the individual s family and primary caregivers. CAC is supported by funding from foundations, donations, governmental contracts, fee for services to agencies and organizations, and individuals and families.
