YWCA is a social service agency that was established in 1855. It is a Christianity-based women's membership movement that works to create opportunities for women's growth and leadership. The agency represents more than 20 million women, girls and their families worldwide. It also operates offices in over 90 countries and nearly 250 locations in the United States. YWCA provides child care, rape crisis intervention, domestic violence assistance, advocacy, job training, career counseling and fitness training services. In addition, it offers shelter services for domestic violence victims and their families, as well as conducts entrepreneurial training programs for teenagers. YWCA maintains one of its locations in Lowell, Mass.
