Some clients were able to maintain an internal accounting department, while a majority of my clients were comprised of one or two owners with limited bookkeeping know-how, little physical space and a tight budget. The latter client often relied on their CPA to provide bookkeeping services for year-end tax preparation. The hourly cost of these services by the CPA ranged from $150-$250 hour. Ridiculous if you ask me. In 2010 I finally broke free and began to offer the same type of high quality service at 20% of the price.
