Established in 1999, the Massachusetts Climate Action Network's mission is to help local activists wanting to work on the problem of climate change in their homes and in the communities.
MCAN has 40 local chapters that cover 80 cities and towns throughout Massachusetts. One popular program is the "Low-Carbon Diet" which guides participants through a plan to reduce the carbon footprint of their home. The measures range from changing all your lightbulbs and recycling more to reducing meat in your diet.
So far the Network has guided 1,300 state residents through the process. MCAN also works to advocate environmental policy changes in Massachusetts. MCAN is funded through private donations from corporations and individuals and grants from foundations.
