Swampscott Town Hall is the center of local government and rich in history. Residents come to the historic building to register to vote, pay water bills and check their home's assessed value, among other reasons. Selectmen and other town boards meet there.
Many who enter the elegant brick building pause to enjoy its hardwood floors and ornamental trim. Stately portraits painted in oil and historic photographs hang on the walls.
The building is a National Historic Landmark, formerly home to prolific inventor Elihu Thomson. Thomson was a pioneer in the development electronic devices and helped found General Electric.
