Established in 1951, Camp Thoreau is family-owned outdoor center that serves children between the ages of 4 and 15. It organizes a variety of camping activities, such as swimming, sailing and cooking. The day camp offers services for children in pre-kindergarten through grade 10. Camp Thoreau conducts tennis, archery, drama, and arts and crafts activities. It also organizes water games and provides canoeing and book making programs. The camp offers internship opportunities for students. In addition, Camp Thoreau provides transportation solutions. It conducts overnight trips and is a member of the American Camp Association. The camp has received the 2004 Community Honor Award.
