Founded in 1854, Salem State University gained its university status on July 28, 2010. Over 10,000 graduate and undergraduate students study at the university, which has both full-time and part-time programs. It currently offers 29 majors and 59 minors to undergraduates. Popular undergraduate programs include Criminal Justice, Psychology and Business Education. Graduate programs include Education, Criminal Justice and Nursing. The school offers a variety of extracurriculars, including art, athletics and community service. Patricia Maguire Meservey serves as current President of the University.
