CENTRO, formerly Centro Las Americas, is a prominent nonprofit organization in Central Massachusetts that has been serving over 24,000 individuals and families each year since its establishment in 1977. As the largest minority-led, community-based, multicultural, and multilingual institution in the region, CENTRO aims to assist people in achieving self-sufficiency while promoting social responsibility, cultural identity, and community contribution. With a commitment to providing culturally and linguistically competent services, CENTRO offers a wide range of programs and initiatives, including food pantry services, adult group foster care, family support services, and children and family services, among others. Over the years, CENTRO has undergone significant growth and transformation to better meet the diverse needs of the community it serves. Originally founded as Centro Communal Hispano to preserve and share Puerto Rican culture and support newcomers in Worcester, CENTRO expanded its mission to serve all Latinos in the area by the mid-1990s. Today, CENTRO proudly serves individuals and families from North, Central, and South America, as well as various countries in Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. With a strategic planning process in place, CENTRO continues to evolve and adapt to the changing demographics and needs of Worcester's population, striving to provide excellent culturally sensitive services and foster partnerships with other institutions and providers.
