The Hartford Correctional Center is a level-4, high-security, urban jail that houses pretrial offenders. It serves courts in Bristol, Enfield, Hartford, Manchester, Middletown, New Britain and Rockville in Connecticut. The center is a part of the Connecticut Department of Corrections. It administers adult basic education programs that include classes in mathematics, language arts, general science and social studies. Its beginners and advanced art programs feature the development of dance and creative writing skills. The center also administers an AIDS education program that includes videos and printed materials. The Hartford Correctional Center houses more than 1,000 inmates. In addition, the center conducts family education and parenting programs.
