About Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra Founded in 1976, for more than a quarter century the Symphony has presented high-quality performances popular with the public, with 2004 marking the 25th anniversary of the Holiday 'Pops' concerts in Mechanics Hall. In 1951, founder Harry Levenson began the "Summer Family Concert Series" ( with a predecessor orchestra ) in Worcester's Institute Park which continues to this day in Cristoforo Colombo Park and Institute Park. Attracting thousands of concertgoers each year, these summer concerts have become the most popular outdoor summer music series in central Massachusetts.
