The Malden Fire Department is a component of Metrofire, an association of 34 metropolitan Boston fire departments that provides coordination of mutual aid response to improve the effectiveness of fire services. The department coordinates fire and emergency response services. It responds to major incidents with specialized equipment and staff and engages in homeland security operations. The Malden Fire Department responds to calls regarding hazardous materials, heavy rescue situations and evacuation. The department has a force of firefighters, 18 lieutenants, 13 captains and 6 deputy chiefs commanded by a head chief. It operates four engines, two ladders and one heavy rescue apparatus from four fire stations. The Malden Fire Department averages more than 7,900 runs annually. The department is based in Malden, Mass.
