Incorporated in 1993, the Greenfield Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that safeguards civil rights and preserves peace, order and safety. It maintains patrol, K-9, investigation and administration divisions. The department has a communication and dispatch center that responds to police, fire, and medical emergency and nonemergency calls. The Greenfield Police Department operates a special response team that responds to hostage and sniper situations, barricaded suspects, personal protection and high-risk apprehension, as well as provides warrant services. It has an animal control division that undertakes issues related to animal bites, barking dogs and missing animals. The department also maintains a sex offender registry. The Greenfield Police Department hosts the TRIAD program and administers citizens police academy. The department also supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program and the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) System. It is located in Greenfield, Mass.
