Established in 1980, Greater Lawrence Family Health Center is one of the leading community health centers providing medical care in isolated and impoverished areas throughout the United States. The center provides primary health care to more than 38,000 patients from Lawrence, Mass., and the neighboring communities of Haverhill, Andover, North Andover, Methuen, Tewksbury, and Salem, N.H. The health center offers a wide range of services in various areas, including primary medical and prenatal care, obstetrics, pediatrics, elderly care, gynecology, internal medicine, disease prevention and health education, nutrition counseling, case management, family planning HIV and AIDS outreach, education, and social services. Additionally, it provides alternative healing methods, such as tai chi, acupuncture, hypnosis, meditation, yoga, aerobics and massage through its integrative medicine program. Located in Lawrence, it developed an accredited community health center-sponsored family practice residency program to provide physician services for underserved populations.
