Across the street from the remaining building of Dennison Pipe Organ Company is a log cabin-style building. This building houses Furniture Restoration owned by Reading native Stephen Tates. The entire open first floor is the workshop where Tates makes old and worn furniture look as new as original. He specializes in antique detailing and restoration. There is a strong smell of wood dust and turpentine, lingering reminders of his applied timeless skill.
Since 1976 Tates has been restoring and refinishing all wooden furniture. He has repaired desks, tables, chairs, china cabinets, dressers and much more. His restoration skills go as far as being able to replace veneer. Tates hosts workshops and lessons. He also teaches Reading Recreation-sponsored classes at Reading High School.
