Run by the Rev. Dr. Stephen Butler Murray, this American Baptist church is popular for weddings, and undergoing a period of revitalization to increase its appeal to the younger generation. The church recently joined Facebook, and plans to add a second service geared toward parents and their children.

The sanctuary, obtained in 1882, was designed by architect Henry Hobson Richardson, who later became famous for his design of Trinity Church in Copley Square. The First Baptist is one of his first examples of a Richardson Romanesque style, and includes a 176-foot puddingstone tower.
