History
Cradles to Crayons was founded in Boston in 2002 by our CEO Lynn Margherio. The model for C2C was conceived from Lynn's personal observation that a constantly regenerating supply of quality children's goods sits dormant in the thousands of homes of middle income families across the country. From her experience in the non-profit, public, and private sector, Lynn was also aware of the challenges faced by families in low income situations as they strive to cover the basic needs such as housing, food, and transportation. These difficult choices left them without basic items like clothing, baby safety gear, and books for their children. Through these experiences, Lynn developed an idea for an organization which could effectively transfer high-quality children's goods from communities of abundance to communities of need.
Specialties
Founded in 2002, Cradles to Crayons (C2C) is an innovative Quincy-based nonprofit organization that equips children living in homeless or low income situations with the basic essentials they need to feel safe, warm, ready to learn and valued. While meeting the immediate needs of disadvantaged children, C2C also sets a foundation for lasting change by providing meaningful, tangible volunteer opportunities to thousands of individuals and hundreds of organizations each year. We provide an opportunity for individuals, families and groups to bring in new and gently used children's goods, as well as volunteer and give back in a positive, rewarding atmosphere.
