The Council on Aging, led by Executive Director Jack Beckley, consists of seven volunteers appointed by the mayor and approved by the Melrose Board of Aldermen. The council's main office is located on the first floor of the Beebe Estate. It works to meet the needs of residents age 60 and over and their families, to improve the elderly's quality of life and to help them remain in their homes. Some of the services administered by the Council's professional staff include information and referral, free local transportation, outreach services, SHINE (health information), Property Tax Work-Off, Teen-Aging programs and Friendly Visiting programs.
The Council on Aging meets on the third Thursday of each month, except July & August, at 9:30am in the Milano Senior Center. The public is invited to attend.
