Located in the village of Auburndale, Burr Elementary School welcomes children from a variety of social, economic and racial backgrounds. It's cultural diversity is displayed each year during a world culture festival, where students show off traditions and pride for their heritage. It's neighborhood location helps provide a sense of community among parents, teachers, and students.
Social action is a large focus at Burr; students participate in the Burr Organization of Youth Action (BOOYA) program, which includes volunteer opportunities such as bake sales for the library, shoveling driveways for seniors and helping out with the Special Olympics. The school is lead by Principal Mindy Johal.
Burr Elementary School is one mile from the West Newton MBTA Commuter Rail station and less than one mile from the Auburndale MBTA Commuter Rail station (purple line, Framingham/Worcester line). The #170, #553 and #554 MBTA buses also stop nearby at the intersection of River Street and Pine Street.
