The City Council serves as a legislative body of the city of Boston and acts as a link between the citizens of Boston and the municipal government. It represents the interests of the public through filing legislations and the enactment of orders, ordinances and resolutions. The council maintains a youth affairs committee that encourages nonprofit youth agencies to work with the city government to help youth develop into productive and healthy adults. The City Council also has a city and neighborhood services committee that concerns itself with the delivery of municipal services to residents and neighborhoods in order to promote improved service delivery and cost reductions.
