Founded in 1962, Action For Boston Community Development, also known as ABCD, is one of the largest independent, private and nonprofit human services agencies, headquartered in Boston. The company serves low- and moderate-income residents through its citywide network of area planning action councils, neighborhood service centers, head start and child care centers, and many other neighborhood programs. It offers a wide range of community development programs, including career and community development, crisis intervention, early education and services to families with young children, elder services and health programs, higher education and access to opportunity, planning department initiatives, and youth and dropout prevention programs. It additionally provides food and nutrition programs serving the deprived residents of Greater Boston area with meals, food pantries and vouchers, and charity programs.
