The Academy of Dance is just over the Enfield border in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts has been in existence for more than 30 years, and is currently Since 1987 under the ownership and artistic direction of JoAnn Shepard Jebb. The school offers quality dance instruction for all age groups and levels, starting at the age of 2 years 9 months, through teen classes and adult levels. Many different subjects are offered such as Creative Movement, for our youngest students, and our highly successful Kinder combo programs for students aged 5 through 9, as well as Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Hip-Hop and Lyric. We offer a wide variety of class times, including morning options, to accommodate every busy family's hectic schedule. The Academy of Dance prides itself on its unique ability to blend a warm family friendly atmosphere together with a quality dance education. The philosophy is to provide students with the best possible technical training, while at the same time, recognizing each child as an individual. The goal is to truly make a positive difference in the life of every child who walks through the door, and this has been proven true many times over, as former dancers constantly keep in touch, and even bring their own children back as students. Quality dance training offers students so much more than simply the knowledge of technique. Programs offered by The Academy of Dance, provide children with the opportunity to develop a great work ethic, a sense of teamwork, self confidence, and most importantly, pride in achievement. In order to meet the needs of all students, The Academy of Dance offers the option of two different programs - our main recreational division for students wishing to dance one or more times weekly, and an intensive division for students with a serious interest in dance. In addition to their weekly classes, students participating in the recreational level, have the opportunity to collaborate with their class on a piece of choreography for our year end recital. The dancers have a great time with all aspects of this process and look forward to performance time with great anticipation. Students participating in our intensive division, dance 8 or more hours weekly and participate in numerous competitive and educational events each year, on both a regional and national level. The faculty and staff take great pride in providing these dedicated students with the tools necessary to help them become accomplished in their art. Some of their achievements are quite impressive, such as winning numerous awards and scholarships, including Miss Dance of Connecticut 2007 and 2008, and Male Dance of the Year for New Haven Ct 2007. The alumni students of the Academy of Dance have also gone on to attain a high level of success as well. The school is pleased that its' students are well rounded individuals and some of this year's graduates will be atending such prestigious colleges as Dartmouth and Northeastern. Others have gone on to be members of the New England Patriots Cheerleaders, participants in dance teams and programs at Holy Cross, UConn, Providence College and Westfield State to name a foew, or to be dance majors in prestigious programs such as SUNY Purchase. The Academy of Dance is also proud of the excellent background and dance education of its faculty members. Their training stems from such places as SUNY Prchase School for the Arts, Dean College Dance Department, Ballet Theatre of Boston, and Springfield College Dance Department. Jebb is also an active member of Dance Masters of America and Dance Teachers Club of Connecticut, an organization that certifies members as teachers by a testing procedure.
