Jewish Community Housing for the Elderly has been offering nonsectarian housing for seniors since 1965. The organization operates more than five retirement communities in Brighton, Newton and Framingham, Mass. It offers various services, including scheduled transportation, personal care assistance, medication monitoring, housekeeping, laundry and linen services, and 24-hour security. The organization offers various educational, social, and cultural programs, and small group activities, such as book discussion groups, classes and chess games. Its tenant councils sponsor special events, such as ballroom dancing, jazz concerts, and Chinese choral groups. Its facilities have an on-site convenience store that sells groceries, including dairy products, deli items, canned and frozen foods, and household goods. The organization is financed and supported by state and federal programs, and through donations from individuals, corporations and foundations.
