Serving more than 550 students in sixth through eighth grade, Wiley H. Bates Middle School is located next to the famed Maryland Hall. Dr. Diane Bragdon is the principal of the school, which has a strong focus on the arts. In 2009, it became home to Anne Arundel County's first and only Performing and Visual Arts Magnet School. The Magnet School serves about 150 sixth and seventh grade students. Students interested in music, dance and visual arts are selected for the school through an application process. Applications are open to fifth- and sixth-grade students attending Annapolis, South River, Southern, Broadneck and Severna Park elementary and middle schools. Visit the school's Web site for more information about the magnet school and its integrated arts curriculum.
