The Ellicott City Historic District lies at the heart of Ellicott City's Main Street. In 1772, Joseph, John and Andrew Ellicott purchased 700 acres of land along the Patapsco River. They created grist mills and exported wheat and other goods along the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.
Today, the district is home to all kinds shops selling antiques, clothing, hand-made jewelry, accessories, candy, toys, wine and more. In addition, there is a nice selection of restaurants and bars. The Ellicott City Historic District has a rich history.
