History
The founder, Sal, was born and raised in the New Orleans area where food is central to life. Both of Sal's parents were excellent cooks and he studied under them in his young life. His father was a first-generation American from a family of Italian immigrants. His mother learned to cook from both her mother and her mother-in-law.. Sal's first job was in a family member's restaurant starting as a dishwasher but he assisted with everything from bussing tables and assisting in the kitchen to boiling hundreds of pounds of crawfish and shrimp at a time. At a young age Sal started smoking meats. Over the decades he refined his smoking craft. In 2009 he perfected his first barbecue sauce In April of 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic forced Sal to walk away from his career in security electronics and IT administration, he took a gamble of a lifetime and formed Smokey's Barbecue Shack LLC with the purpose of bottling and selling his sauces.
