Oakland Terrace, bordered by nearby Plyers Mill Park, is one of the area's largest elementary schools, gathering students from both sides of Georgia Avenue. The modern school building includes a library/media center, a courtyard and a personalized square for each student who's passed through its halls.
Principal Cheryl Pulliam's vision of her elementary school is heavily invested in inclusion of special education students by bringing support staff into the school. Because the school is operating at nearly double its capacity, kindergarten students will be taught at Sligo Middle School for the next two years, starting in the 2010-2011 school year, until the new McKenney Hills elementary school opens in 2012.
