North Potomac School of Music offers instruction in violin, viola, cello and piano. Each course is designed to meet both the needs of students and curriculum standards.
Private lessons consist of technical work, repertoire and weekly theory assignments. Pianists are required to study the practical keyboard skills of harmonization and transposition.
Students advance from the fundamental levels through AP levels. Students completeing the 12 levels are able to test out of college freshman and sophomore theory. The performance classes are designed to give young performers experience in performing and audience etiquette. It also teaches students how to listen to and evaluate music.
The school is located in Jackson Plaza, next to the Montgomery Community College administration building.
