When Maryland s governor and legislators created the Maryland Environmental Service in 1970, the agency s mission was to protect and enhance the state s air, land and water resources. More than 30 years later, this independent state agency continues to take on projects that fulfill this directive. The agency does not have regulatory authority and is not funded through direct appropriations. It is a self-supporting, nonprofit public corporation that works with both governmental and private sector clients to find solutions to some of the most complex environmental challenges. Maryland Environmental Service is located in Millersville, Md.
