Mary Sue Candies was founded in 1948 by Samuel Spector. Soon after World War II a commercial plant was built to house the growing operation. By 1955, a new facility was built to house the operation for what was now known as Mary Sue Candies. In 1958, after shaping the Mary Sue Butter Cream into a traditional Easter Egg, Spector hired a young football player named Johnny Unitas to pitch the product on local television. The line eventually expanded to Easter eggs of many flavors, butter creams, assorted chocolates, salt water taffy, and almond bark. The company sells everyday products, seasonal products and corporate products.
