Located in Rockville, Germantown and Washington, D.C., the Energy Federal Credit Union was founded as the Department of Energy's credit union for employees and contractors. Today, over 170 companies are members, including non-obvious examples such as Adventist Healthcare, Interfaith Alliance Foundation and Potomac College. As a member of the CU Service Center network, EFCU allows its customers to freely use over 1,900 partner branches in the D.C. area, in addition to the four ECFU branches. Members are also entitled to free credit counseling, a free accidental death and dismemberment insurance policy, discounts from a variety of local and national merchants and typically lower rates on auto and home loans.
