The Department of Aging is governed by the state government of Maryland. The department is responsible for protecting the rights and improving the quality of life of senior citizens in the state. It administers state and federal funds through local area agencies. The Department of Aging provides advocacy, health education, housing, information, referral, nutrition and in-home services. The department also monitors and provides technical assistance to local area agencies throughout the state. The Department of Aging operates through continuing care, program development, housing services, budget and fiscal services, and client and community services divisions. It coordinates health promotion and disease prevention programs for individuals aged 60 and over throughout the state.
