Carl Sandburg Learning Center is dedicated to 1oo special education students with multiple disabilities enrolled in the Montgomery County Pubic School System. This is done with highly structured kindergarten through fifth grade classes of eight-to-10 students with a teacher and instructional assistant.
The school puts an emphasis on parent involvement and curriculum development. Other efforts by the school include a full-day kindergarten, a full-time staff psychologist and a media center.
The school is a member of the PAWS Program, Positive Actions with Students. This a student contract advancing the principle of good listening, talking and working with quiet hands and feet. Successful students receive smiles on their PAWS contract. The smiles are redeemable weekly at the school store.
